Joyce & Yvan Beliveau

Joyce and Yvan welcome you to Beliveau Farm!

It started with a dream to make wine. Yvan, a builder, academic, and farm boy at heart, wanted to grow grapes and blend the art and science of making wine. The 165 acre farm was purchased in late 2001 with the goal of planting a vineyard and opening a winery. Originally called Maison Beliveau, then Beliveau Estate, the name was adjusted to Beliveau Farm in 2019 to reflect the agricultural nature and theme of the property.

Joyce has always loved lavender and been intrigued by the concept of a bed and breakfast. In 2005 the first two lavender rows were planted. In 2007 the newly renovated farmhouse opened as a five guest room bed and breakfast and hosted the first of many weddings. Beliveau Farm has since become an award winning wedding venue in Southwest Virginia. The two original lavender rows have seen many a bride walk down their path. Many more rows now adorn the property and annually thousands of people visit to “smell the lavender” during lavender season mid-June to mid-July.

The first grapes were planted in 2009 and the first wine made in 2011. The winery opened in 2012 and took six competition medals in it’s first year. Many more medals have followed. In 2019 a gluten free brewery was added as well as a Wine and Beer Garden. Yvan, who is gluten sensitive, can now enjoy a delicious glass of beer alongside our wonderful wines.

Yvan holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from Purdue University. In 2021 Yvan retired as a faculty member from the College of Architecture at Virginia Tech where he served for many years as the Department Head of the Building Construction program. In addition to his many academic accomplishments Yvan was involved in the start-up of a hi-tech company which garnered many patents and received international acclaim. These days you will find him on his tractor, making decisions on winemaking, leading winery hikes and tasting tours, or taking the afternoon off to sip wine with friends, family, or guests at the winery.

Joyce has a Masters Degree in Counseling from Virginia Tech and has held numerous leadership roles in local business prior to starting this venture. She wears multiple hats at Beliveau Farm where she serves as the chief creative mind of the Beliveau enterprise, handles the business finances, and assists in mentoring new staff members. Come by and say hi to her in her office located in the Gift Shop of the Event Center.

In 2019 Beliveau Farm installed a solar field and rapidly reaped the benefits of solar energy. Joyce and Yvan are proud of their green initiatives which earned them the 2019 “Green Business of the Year Award” from the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.

Growth continues at the farm with a new building called the “Sugar Shack”. It’s massive outside patio with a 100 foot long continuous walnut bar offers an incredible experience to sip and overlook the vineyard and magical property. The “Sugar Shack” will be the site of boiling sap to syrup from Beliveau’s numerous sugar maple trees, and will serve as an education center offering wine and food pairing dinners to groups of up to 20.

In addition to giving rise to this incredible business enterprise Joyce and Yvan have raised two sons and a daughter and two foster daughters. They have six grandchildren.
